Audio Drama Debut - Transcript - S03E15

All of the words said out loud for S03E15 of Audio Drama Debut, my podcast showcasing new audio drama, fiction and RPG trailers.

F/X - Fountain pen writing, and then being capped.

Hello there. Welcome back to the Library of Audio Fiction. I'm sorry we've not been open to visitors for some time, but we've had a bit of a problem with our staff. Specifically, anyone who works for me.

I don't know why, but for some reason, they've all gone on strike. Something to do with biscuits "not being a suitable replacement for a Christmas bonus" or a "real terms pay cut". Apparently even the chocolate hobnobs don't count as suitable. They're all stood outside now, around fires they started in some barrels. I don't even know where they found barrels, this is a library, not a shipyard! We've got dramas, books, stories, actual plays and a few other things, but definitely no barrels.

I'm also rather unimpressed that they laughed about me falling off my bike. I thought I'd managed to cover up my skinned knee quite well, but they must have seen it as they kept yelling "scab" as I walked past them.

It means I've not been able to stock any of the new full length shows recently, I've only been able to get a few trailers. Here, you'll have to listen to those.

First, Trice Forgotten. Alestes likes to keep her head down while she works as a merchant, couriering deliveries and carrying travelers to destinations across the seas. Only as her travelers gradually become permanent crewmates, she realises her ship has become a floating museum, laboratory, vault of repatriated ‘treasures’, and a chef’s kitchen. After spending most of her life with the understanding that nothing changes, no matter how hard you fight, Alestes is faced with a choice: Will she use her new network of allies to build safe harbour and potentially a future for her new community, or will she once again put her head down and drown in her sea of excuses…

F/X - beneath a stormy sea, bubbles

Music - a flute, like a siren song

F/X - a musket shot, running through brush, Siva panting

SOLDIERS: After him!! That way!! Don’t let him escape!!

F/X - a wave crashes, scene now on deck of a pirate ship, crew cheering, wind in the sails, the captain speaks]

Gammon: My girls return! (encouraging another cheer) And they’ve only gone and got the BLOODY SWAG!

F/X - He kicks over a chest and gold coins pour onto the deck, rolling off in all directions. CHEERS! FOOT-STAMPING! PIRATES!!!!

F/X - Quiet and hushed – a burnt-out-sounding husk of a place. Distantly, insects buzz. Pottery crunches underfoot.

Noor: Oh Allah, elevate her station among those who are guided. Send her along the path of those who came before, and forgive us and her, Oh Lord of the worlds... ...Enlarge for her, her grave and shed light upon her in it.

F/X - Thunder rolls, waves come in and crash along the deck.

Alestes: Storm’s right where we want it, Baker. Better get your arse in gear. Brace on my command. Ready – set –

F/X: the wind changes, catching in the sails. Alestes laughs to herself-anticipation, delight, freedom.

And finally, ElfQuest. When a fierce tribe of woodland elves - the Wolfriders - are burned from their homes by hostile humans, their chief, Cutter, must tap every reserve of strength and will to lead his people to safety. Barely surviving brutal setbacks, the Wolfriders discover to their astonishment other elves - the Sun Folk - who exist in the world they thought was theirs alone. Now refugees, the hardship of losing their forest home proves small compared to the spirit-twisting trials that follow when Cutter experiences an unexpected soul-to-soul bond with the healer of the Sun Folk, Leetah. Join us as the Wolfriders confront danger, death, and desperate flight as they wrestle with deep mysteries of identity and love.
