Audio Drama Debut - Transcript - S02E31

All of the words said out loud for S02E31 of Audio Drama Debut, my podcast showcasing new audio drama, fiction and RPG trailers.

F/X - Fountain pen writing, and then being capped.

The Librarian: Hello there. Come in, but be careful of all of the boxes.

F/X - Squelch.

Oh, and that pumpkin. Never mind. Feel free to take a seat on that wooden trunk over there, the one labelled Archive of Audio Fiction. It contains every "first ever" podcast, meaning it's got all the dramas, books, stories, actual plays, and a few other things that claimed to be the first of that sort of thing. Massive box, isn't it?

Speaking of pumpkins, look out for the desk as well, as there's one of the Director's old Pumpkin Spice lattes on it. Terrible thing, but she seems to like them.

As I say, excuse all the mess. I've been having a bit of a sort out. I was in the attic looking for the Halloween skeleton, and I came across all these boxes. They obviously hadn't been filed properly, and so I've been sorting through them to see where it all needs to go.

Some of it's fairly simply, being loan records, or elements of the old filing system that have just been missed, because people don't know whether things that begin with The go under the T or something else. Obviously that's an easy one. No idea why people always get it wrong.

And then there was that box over there, which was empty except for this show about a person documenting their move across the country, this show about someone practicing theatre they found in a loft, and this show about a professor and his intern trying to catalogue some weird items.

But now I'm working on this one, and it's rather interesting. It looks like someone was keeping a diary, though there seem to be some unusual events in it. Here listen.

1st March - A strange banging sound in the pipes. It got closer for a while, and then ceased. I think something is interfering with the Library's systems.

10th of May - There's definitely something wrong in the Library. The shows aren't where they're supposed to be. There's some new order to them. I think it might contain a message?

19th July - Shows aren't just moved, they're missing. A big chunk of them have vanished. I need to hunt them down.

18th October - There's a sticky fluid covering the floors. It seems like it makes a trail, but I've not yet managed to find where it comes from.

February 14 - Sounds in the walls. Getting closer.

Sorry, sorry, couldn't resist.

May 16 - It had been quiet for so long, I thought things were better. But today, the automata went crazed. Something had set them against each other. I only managed to stop them with a fire axe.

5th September - The day I feared has come. The odd happenings are no longer just affecting objects, but people. I found the first direct victim of the Library's problem. An unfortunate woman, trapped for hours, surrounded by curious globes. But I've found out what caused it. I'm going to deal with this now.

Well that sounds remarkably ominous. I hope whoever this was managed to find out what was going on. Luckily, underneath all that, I also found these four trailers, so that should keep you busy while you're hiding from trick or treaters.

First, Shoe Bones. Bone-chilling Horror on a Shoe-String Budget. A horror-anthology podcast with 6 short stories. The narrator, Gideon, puts a modern spin on classic tales of horror--from alien invasions to Frankenstein--deadly doppelgangers to deep, dark unknowns--from haunted houses to monkey's paws. But not all is as it seems. Who exactly is Gideon and why did she decide to tell these tales?

The Librarian: Then, If I Go Missing the Witches Did It, a Realm production. When a Black writer goes missing, a white podcast host with a savior complex takes up the cause of finding her—and collides with a coven of influencers she suspects are responsible. After a summer in Westchester soaking up how the other half lives, Jenna Clayton has vanished without a trace. The only clue: a set of voice memos detailing an investigation into a group of influencers she suspected were using magic to achieve their means.

Elise Edgerton is outraged that no one has found Jenna yet, and decides to take up the cause. But despite believing she is using her platform for good, Elise’s mission threatens to turn her into an even worse villain than a witch: a white savior.

The Librarian: And See You In Your Nightmares. Welcome to the Lutwidge Wellness Center—where nightmares come to life. The newest patient, Harper Hart, has been plagued by insomnia ever since the mysterious death of her twin sister, Callie. Turning to Dr. Faith Carter and her team for an experimental sleep treatment, Harper gets hooked up to Blossom, the center’s cutting-edge AI. But things quickly spiral out of control… the treatment has unleashed something evil into Harper’s subconscious, and it’s infecting the dreams of all her fellow patients. Harper will have to overcome her deepest fears if she—or anyone else—wants to make it out alive.

The Librarian: And finally, City of Ghosts. Eleanor "El" Rivkin is a misanthropic information broker who grapples with a tangled web of corruption, murder, and her own mysterious abilities in 1990s New York City.

The Librarian: And that's that. I'll let you sneak out before...

F/X - Door slam.

The Director: Librarian. Where is my latte! Stop attempting to throw them out! I like the dregs! It's where all the syrup sits.

The Librarian: Sorry?

The Director: You will be! And what is this mess? Are those...

How did you get my notes?! Those are for your appraisal, you can't see them beforehand!

The Librarian: My appraisal? I thought they were about a threat to the Library?

The Director: They are!

And you, get out!

The Librarian: Anyway, cheerio!
