Be Prepared

As a (former) Scout, I was rather hopeful about this series. I was envisaging heartless politics between groups of Sixers, and dirty jokes about what you can do with a woggle. Unfortunately, the Scout movement is mostly here to act as a framework for a fairly pedestrian cringe comedy.

The Scout troop around which the programme is based contains one Leader, who is a recently divorced, former member of the Scouts and his son, who is a Scout only alternate weekends. They are joined by a local teacher, seeking some lost childhood, and generally also his wife, a baby-desperate stereotype.

There are a couple of nice moments in here, with Miles (the former Leader) behaves in a rather Machiavellian manner to achieve his goals, but honestly, it's mostly a bit weak. There's nothing particularly innovative, and it only elicits chuckles, not guffaws.

I've given it two episodes, but I suspect this is going to be defeated by my general disinterest in embarassment comedy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Here it doesn't. Give it a listen if you're interested in Scouts and baby making (not together).

Not recommended.
